Markets
Since 2014 we have worked among over two hundred (200) the poorest of the poor among the market women, girls and boys who engage in hazardous and harmful income generation activities.
These activities are associated with poor psychological, physical and mental health as well as insecurity. Preliminary findings from data collected among the a representative sample of the population showed that 95% reported somatic pain, 65% reported perceived depression due to worry and anxiety while 75% of them reported noy happy everything considered. Some of them are also homeless and the school- age teenagers among them have dropped out of school. Our activities have been focused on psychosocial support services, provision of suitable accommodation, alternative sources of income through closely monitored skill acquisition programmes and return-to school programme. In the coming years.
Mental health support
This includes provision of financial and human resources to ensure that market women with mental health issues receive medical care.
Since 2017 we have registered and have been following up the treatment of a rehabilitated woman from the market with the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria with the bills paid and drugs purchased. On clinic days, a volunteer always accompanies her to the hospital with enough funds for transportation cost, consultation fee and drug purchase. It is our hope to scale-up outreach activities with support from our partners in the coming years. All activities have been self-funded by the CEO/Founder of Profamily-Care Foundation
Leadership skills and Character development
A total number of forty (40) secondary schools have been reached and excellent clubs have been established. This is to foster character development and leadership skills.
Student-in-need
Psychosocial need: A number of sexual abuse cases were discovered and handled. More cases could be discovered with more regular visits and awareness programmes thus improving the psychological wellbeing of abused victims. Financial need: Scholarships have been provided for an orphan from Primary school to the University level. The orphan is currently in the final year in the University. Three other students on postgraduate studies are also being assisted financially to complete their studies.
